iPhone 4 Recall Would Cost $1.5 Billion

Any of you who follow this blog, will know all about the iPhone 4 Antenna issue at this stage. We’ve had the consumer report not recommending the iPhone 4 because of it, Apple claiming it’s a display issue and analysts saying that Apple could get into trouble over the whole thing.
So what if Apple were to recall the iPhone 4 with a new antenna design to solve all these issues? Well not only would it damage Apple’s reputation, but one analyst predicts it could cost them in excess of $1.5 Billion! Now this is highly unlikely, because: firstly – it’s apple, and secondly – that’s 3.5% of Apple’s current cash balance.
Now if Apple had any sense, the cheaper option, which would more than likely satisfy most consumers, would be if they issued free bumpers to people! This rubber case would solve the antenna issue as it prevents the users skin from coming in direct contact with the iPhone 4′s antenna design.
This software update that they’re working on, wont solve the issue, it will just mean the signal indicator is more accurate at displaying how poor your signal is.
So Apple, grow up, cop on and do the sensible option. All you have to do is offer a free bumper with the sale of an iPhone 4, is that too much to ask for?
Just another thing crossed my mind, do you think Apple will have made an alteration to the white iPhone 4 since it hasn’t been released yet ,that solves the antenna woes of the world?
