64GB iPhone 4 Finds Its Way Out Of Hiding

There’s been a lot of coverage today on the web about an alleged 64GB iPhone 4 which has been leaked in China straight from Foxconn’s factory who manufacture the iPhone 4.
This engineering prototype first appeared on M.I.C Gadget where they posted a couple of pictures. They then managed to get a hands on with the device and have since confirmed that it does appear to be the real deal. This “engineering prototype” is definitely leaked from Foxconn’s factory in Shenzhen.
It shares many characteristics with the iPhone 4 that Gizmodo managed to get their hands on. That was also an engineering prototype and just like this leaked 64GB iPhone it was missing “+” and “-” symbols on the side, as well as a ring around the camera lens. There was also a similar marking on the back which reads XXGB

Currently Apple only ships 16GB and 32GB iPhone 4′s, and never has said anything about a 64GB version. It’s entirely plausible that Apple are planning on releasing a 64GB version of it. However Engadget went over to the market where this device was spotted on sale. The people selling it wanted a hefty HK$13,500 (US$1,734) for their phone. They went and ran some numbers from the device and the serial number was invalid but the model number shows that the device was manufactured in early 2010, which would have been before the iPhone 4 was ever released. This would hint that Apple intended to release a 64GB model of the iPhone 4, and then must have changed their mind.

So yes it’s a real prototype of the iphone 4 64GB but it has been around for a while, so it’s nothing new, but it does mean that Apple were thinking of introducing a 64GB model of the iPhone, and may still do yet.
This could also mean that they are preparing to introduce a 64GB model of the iPhone 5….
